The extrusion process begins by feeding pellets of PVC compound into a machine called a hopper, which is a funnel-shaped device used to move the PVC compound from one receptacle to another and then heating them until they reach a melted state. The PVC compound is then forced through a die that defines the shape and thickness of the tube. Once this occurs, the extruded tube is rapidly cooled in a bath of chilled water, as the cool water temperature helps to improve clarity. Reinforced polyester twine is now added before encapsulating the tube again with a protective outer coating to give the hose and tube its strength and protective properties. At this stage rollers then pull the tube through the entire process and cut it into required lengths. As the tube runs off it is inspected for potential defects and coiled onto reels for packing. Finally each reel is measured to ensure the tube meets the required inner and outer diameters, and our high standards.
